We took our grammar quiz over subjects, verbs, commas, & periods. Then we went to the computer lab to work on the first source for the research paper.
We took our vocabulary quiz for this week, and then the students did page 26 in their MLA research packets. They did a career quiz and picked a final topic for their career research papers. Tomorrow, we have a grammar quiz and then will begin finding sources for the research papers.
The students drew pictures to represent the vocabulary words, and then we worked on grammar practice (commas). We checked the practice together as a class, and then any class time we had left was given for students to finish their Works Cited Practice homework. Vocabulary quiz tomorrow and grammar quiz (commas, periods, subjects & verbs) on Friday.08/26/2014
The students wrote their own, unique sentences for each vocabulary word, and then we shared them & discussed why or why not the sentences would get the full points on the quiz. Then we discussed comma rules for grammar. Students will get to use their comma rule packets for the practice tomorrow as well as the quiz on Friday.
Vocabulary words for the week: hypothesis, perfidious, inconsequential. We started a grammar lesson over commas & periods. I then did a lesson on academic dishonesty -- see the uploaded PPT. There will be a vocabulary quiz on Thursday and a grammar quiz on Friday.
We reviewed the grammar rules for finding verbs & subjects, and then we did more practice with it. The students did much better this time. I will probably just add some subject/verb sentences to the grammar quiz for next week. We finished up the notes portion of our MLA packet.
Students took their first vocabulary quiz. Then we took a trip to the library to get some free books (the library was getting rid of some of their books); I, personally, ended up getting 25! We came back and checked our grammar work from yesterday, and I realized that we need more work on it. SO that means that we will NOT have a grammar quiz tomorrow. We will do it sometime next week. Finally, we continued our career research packet.
Students drew pictures to represent their vocabulary words for the week, and then they worked individually on grammar practice for subjects & verbs. We continued their MLA research packet, and they worked on the Citing Sources Practice worksheet. I will grade those and hand them back to be redone; usually students need quite a bit of practice with in-text and Works Cited citations. There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow and a grammar quiz on Friday.
We did the second day of our vocabulary (making a unique sentence for each word with context clues), the second day of our grammar (finding verbs & subjects), and continued working through our MLA career research packet. Students have a vocabulary quiz on Thursday and a grammar quiz on Friday.
Vocabulary words for this week: exemplary, prudent, & novice. We had a grammar lesson over nouns, verbs, & subjects. We then started our MLA career research paper.
We took a grammar pretest and then played more get-to-know-you games. We will start our first unit on Monday.08/14/2014
We reviewed the syllabus and policies for the year.
Today was intended as a get-to-know-you day. Students filled out a survey, and we went around the room discussing answers.
