20% Project Day 2: Students worked on their individual projects.
08/28/2014
Computer lab. The students started finding source #1 for their career research papers.
08/27/2014
We went to the computer lab to [finally] start writing our career research papers. The students did an interest/career quiz to help determine the topic of their papers.
08/26/2014
We went through some examples of plagiarism together as a class.
08/25/2014
We discussed how vocabulary will work this year: students will pick 10 words every week from the SAT vocab list and do the worksheet on it, handing in their vocab binders at the end of every week. Then we had a presentation over academic dishonesty -- see the uploaded PPT.
08/22/2014
20% Project Day 1 (officially): We went over the requirements (and dates) for the pitch that they will have to do -- see the document I uploaded. The students also started their blogs -- see the button at the top of this page (20% Blogs). Some students are stressing out because they do not know what they want to do for their projects. That is expected and okay.
IMPORTANT: the students will have to be here on one of the school's conferences nights (either October 29th or October 30th) to pitch their projects to community members, parents, other students, teachers, and administration. They will need to be there from 4:00-7:30 pm ONE of those nights. See the assignment for more details.

We continued our MLA career research packet. We defined quotes, paraphrases, and summaries, and I gave some examples. We discussed the requirements for the research paper and how to write it. We have our first official 20% project day tomorrow!
08/20/2014
We continued our MLA career research packet. The students worked on the Citing Sources Practice worksheet. I will grade those and hand them back to be redone. Usually students need quite a bit of practice with in-text and Works Cited citations. Practice makes perfect, right?
08/19/2014
We continued our MLA career research paper. We talked mostly about sources and how to cite them today. I also emailed the students their vocab lists for the year (and they can also use the button at the top of this page "SAT vocab list").
08/18/2014
We started our MLA career research paper. Students received packets, and we began taking notes. We also discussed the job shadow/reflection that is due on September 22nd. See page 39 of the packet for more details.
08/15/2014
We discussed the 20% project and how awesome it is going to be! It's a year-long project that each student will determine the focus of. I'm super excited.
08/14/2014
We reviewed the syllabus and policies for the year.
8/13/2014
Today was intended as a get-to-know-you day. Students filled out a survey, and we went around the room discussing answers.
We also discussed the really awesome thing that is coming to Honors English II on Fridays, but they (and you) will have to wait to find out what exactly that is.
