Students summarized the reading from last night about Aeneas (from the Aeneid), and then we had a reading day for their next reading homework (8 Lovers' Tales).
Vocabulary
Due today at the beginning of the hour. Mythology We briefly discussed the reading from last night (Trojan War & Fall of Troy). Then we watched the Sparknotes videos on Odysseus and the "Odyssey" (Part I, Part II, Part III). Then I showed some clips from the movie O Brother Where Art Thou (Cyclops) because it is based on the story of the "Odyssey." Students took a reading quiz this morning (comprehension, really). Then we watched videos that went along with the reading they had last night. Here is our favorite video about Theseus & the Minotaur.
We finished taking notes over creation (Chapter 3 in Mythology by Edith Hamilton).
Homework - Part III: Chapters 9-12 ("Perseus," "Theseus," "Hercules," & "Atalanta"). Vocabulary
A new week for vocab. Another 10 words will be due on Thursday. Mythology We discussed the important parts of the characters from the reading last night (Part I: Chapters 1 & 2). Then we started taking notes over creation, according to mythology. If you were gone today, read Part I: Chapter 3 and/or get notes from someone. Homework - Part I: Chapter 4 Today was our 6th 20% day, so the students worked on their projects. I reminded them of a few things:
1. Everyone needs to have an adult mentor for their projects (an expert or knowledgeable person in whatever they are doing their projects over). 2. Their pitches need to be done by October 29th or 30th because that is when they are pitching their projects to the public. 3. During the pitch, they are just PROPOSING their ideas, not having their actual products done. 4. If they are not working diligently and happily on their projects, then they need to pick something else. The project should be over something that the student is passionate about. Vocabulary Vocab words are due TOMORROW. Mythology We started our mythology unit today. I discussed some of the background information for why I teach mythology and how it's relevant in our culture today; students took notes of the important aspects. Below is the Prezi presentation that I used as a visual aid. Vocabulary
